Did you know that?..
Al Capone said that Ogden was too wild for him!
And yes, it’s a fact. Back in the 1920s, the legendary criminal boss said that Ogden was too wild a town even for him.

Automotive Ogden, at a glance
An important transportation hub
Ogden was initially called Fort Buenaventura and was the first settlement of Europeans in what is now known as Utah. Located along the main east-west and north-south routes, it got its nickname the Junction City for a reason: the First Transcontinental Railroad passed through it. The local chamber of commerce has adopted a relevant motto: “You can’t get anywhere without coming to Ogden,” and it’s true. Passengers heading from the east to the west coast (San Francisco) would have to pass through the town. Today, the area is served by the Front Runner commuter rail (running between Salt Lake City and Pleasant View), with a stop at Ogden Intermodal Hub. Amtrak Pioneer train stopped its service in Ogden in 1997.
Public transportation system
Ogden, the 8th largest Utah city, is served by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). A few bus routes operate between Salt Lake City and Ogden, connecting them with Weber, northern Davis, and Bringham City. Greyhound, too, has a stop here on a north-south route along Interstate 15. Though Amtrak trains don’t stop in Ogden, the company offers a bus connection service to Salt Lake City, where the residents and visitors can take the daily California Zephyr train (heading to western Oakland or eastern Chicago).
The busiest airport in the state, the Ogden-Hinckley Airport, is located in the southwest of the city, only 3,6 miles from the downtown area.
Major highways
Ogden is served by Interstates 15 and 84. The latter runs east-west through the southern part of the city, connecting to I-15 near Riverdale. The U.S. Route 89 enters Ogden in the south and traverses the main street, Washington Boulevard. State Route 39, running east-west, traverses 12th Street towards Ogden Canyon, connecting the city with Pineview Reservoir and Huntsville. Looking for highway tires for prices that won’t make a flat in your wallet? Buy them at Utires.com and benefit from our free FedEx delivery right to your Ogden doorstep.

What tires do you need for Ogden weather?
Ogden experiences humid subtropical or humid continental climates (depending on a climate classification system). Summers here are hot and relevantly dry, and winters are cool and snowy. The average high temperature in July is 95 °F, and the average low is 37 °F in January. Summers experience occasional thunderstorms. The winter snowfalls last from late October (or early November) to the end of March (or the beginning of April). On average, the city gets 56 inches of snow annually.
If you live in Ogden, you need two sets of tires. Hot summers require a good set of summer or performance tires. They are manufactured from specialized rubber compounds that won’t “melt” on heated road surfaces, and their tread design with deep grooves prevents aquaplaning in heavy rains. In winter, we recommend equipping your car with a set of Mud and Snow, winter, or snow tires. If you want to use all-season rubber, you can, but only when the temperatures aren’t lower or higher than 45 °F.

DRIVERS’ OGDEN GUIDE: PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Do you live in Junction City, or just paying a visit? Then this Driver’s Guide will come in handy! Created by the Utires crew, it has all the information you need to drive safely on local roads: tips on how to avoid traffic, when to perform a seasonal tire changeover, how to tint your car’s windows, and much more! Read on and enjoy the ride!
Live traffic report
According to the Data USA website, on average, the residents of Ogden spend 20.8 minutes commuting to work (compared to the national average of 26.9 minutes). Not bad at all! Usually, Ogdenites don’t complain much about traffic but still try to avoid the usual rush hours. These reliable online resources are usually a great help:
A seasonal tire changeover is a must in Ogden. The cold season usually starts in late October and requires winter, snow, studded, or studdable tires. Utah is considering banning studded tires as they damage the roads, which can lead to accidents, but now the use of studded tires is legal from October 15th to March 31st.
From late March, when the temperature reaches 45 °F, Ogdenites can switch to all-season, summer, or performance tires. Buy at Utires.com and benefit from our free FedEx delivery right to the doorstep of your home or office!
Driving Laws
Utah Department of Transportation determines the Driving Laws that all drivers must follow. You can find them here or read our revised version below.

Using hands-free devices is illegal 41-8-4, 41-6a-1716: drivers under 18 years of age are prohibited from using hands-free in any form. Drivers over 18, however, are allowed to use the hands-free as long as they are not physically manipulating the phone.
Night-time driving is illegal for minors 41-8-2: drivers of 17 years or younger aren’t legally allowed to drive between 12.00 a.m. and 5.00 a.m.
Window tint laws
Refer to the official Utah Car Tinting Lawsx website to learn about all tinting regulations in the state. Here is the revised version:
Car window films darkness for sedans, SUVs, and vans
Windshield: only a non-reflective tint stripe can be installed at the top 4 inches of the windshield or above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line.
Front side windows: car window tint must allow at least 35% of light inside the vehicle
Backside windows: car window tints of any darkness are legal
Rear window: car window tints of any darkness are legal
Reflective car window films
In Utah, it is legal to tint your car’s windows with reflective films unless they have a metallic or mirrored appearance.

Are studded tires legal in Ogden?
Yes, studded tires are legal in Ogden, Utah, from October 15th to March 31st. But think twice before buying them: the Utah government is considering banning them for good as they damage the road surface. Instead, shop for the “progressive” version of winter rubber — studless tires. Buy them on our website, and get a free FedEx delivery right to your Ogden location.
Can I drive on all-season tires in Ogden all year round?
No, you cannot. Ogden has distinct seasons, and all-season tires are designated only for mild weather conditions. They won’t provide good traction in heavy snow or on a heated road surface, both common weather conditions in Ogden.
